Rob Hume was born and educated in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. He began playing the trumpet at the age of 12 and was a pupil of Roger Payne (Northern Sinfonia) and quickly progressed to the ranks of the Northern Junior Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the most progressive Youth Orchestras in Britain at the time. He continued his musical training at Huddersfield University where he studied Trumpet with David James and composition with Richard Steinitz, conducting with Barrie Webb and John Gulley and orchestration with Peter Lawson.
On completion of his studies he was commissioned to write a piece for the Brighouse &Rastrick Band as part of the centenary celebrations of Wakefield Cathedral.
Rob has been involved in instrumental music education since 1988 and almost immediately began developing his own materials for individuals and ensembles. He has worked extensively with young musicians both as a teacher and conductor for over twenty years.
As well as his work with youth Brass Bands, Rob also conducts Scottish Borders Wind Orchestra and Scottish Borders Chamber Orchestra and has been the musical director of shows such as «Kiss Me Kate», «Singin' In The Rain» and «Crazy For You».
Since 2012 Rob is arranging music for Obrasso.
